Understanding the math
How is the pregnancy week calculated?
The calculation starts from the first day of your last period (Naegele's rule): a pregnancy lasts on average 40 weeks, about 280 days. The due date is therefore the date of the last period plus 280 days. It is an estimate: a dating ultrasound may refine or adjust it.
What if I don't know the date of my last period?
If you already have a due date (for example after an ultrasound), use the calculator's "due date" mode. Otherwise, talk to your health professional: a dating ultrasound can estimate how far along the pregnancy is.
Does this calculator replace medical advice?
